5 Ways To Cut Grocery Costs

In tough economic times we could all use a couple of money saving tips as we head out to our weekly food shopping trips.

Tip 1: Shop with a list and do not deviate from that list.  You would be amazed at the amount of groceries that end up in your cart that you did not intend to buy when walking into the store. Get in, stick to your list, and get out as quickly as you can.

Tip 2:  Avoid aisles that don’t have list items.  The days of shopping the entire store are over.  It wastes time and money to cruise down every aisle.

Tip 3:  Don’t shop when you’re hungry.    It’s not good for the waistline or the budget, so avoid at all costs.

Tip 4:  Forget your brand loyalties.  Brand loyalties are dead.  Try to buy what’s on sale instead.  You may find you enjoy another brand better anyway.

Tip 5: Put your blinders on at the checkout.  You’ve made it through the entire store without impulse buys, then you stand in line for ten minutes at the checkout and end up tagging on ten dollars worth of stuff you don’t need.  Those convenience items can usually be found for cheaper at discount stores, so unless there’s a great sale going on, stay away from them.
