Enjoy the natural world with the family while preserving it this summer with these helpful camping hints.
Take out some litter; Leave the site cleaner than you found it. It doesn’t take much to look around and remove a little more than you produced. You’re cleaning up anyway.
Use existing campsite to prevent impacting new areas. Why alter perfectly good untouched forest when you can use an existing campsite? Pitch tents in cleared camp spots only when primitive camping.
Do not set a tent up in a meadow. It's a fragile environment. While you are enjoying the scenery, be cautious walking around to avoid destroying the fragile ecosystems, such as seedlings, wildlife & wildflowers.
No soap in streams, creeks or lakes. Even biodegradable soaps are not good for the fish downstream.
Build campfires in designated rings only. Avoid unnecessary burning and keep your camp safe this way. When you are gathering wood for fuel, use only down wood. Never burn plastics or other toxic materials in campfires. It’s bad for your health and your surroundings. Always douse your campfire with water when you are done.
If off-roading must be part of the plan stick to designated trails to avoid ruining ecosystems. Don't cut across, make short cuts or create new tracks.
