Prevent illness that could take your kids away from school days.
Starting the school year off healthy is an important way you can help your kid smoothly transition from summer to fall.
One way to keep your kids healthier all school year is to make sure their vaccinations are up to date. Find out which ones they need and when they should get them. Encouraging healthy eating habits can also be a way to boost your child's immune system. Pack lunches and plan menus around fruits, veggies and whole grains. Try a high protein breakfast to keep them satisfied until lunch. Scrambled eggs or peanut butter on toast are healthy choices.
Health is about more than what you put in your body, it's also about keeping it active to stay fit. The American Cancer Society recommends children and teens participate in at least 60 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity on most days fo the week. Be a strong role model by getting the entire family involved by taking walks or bike rides together. Plan family trips around hiking or swimming and limit the entire family's sedentary activities like computer time or television.
