Find out where the allergy-causing issues are so you can send them packing.
Clutter: messy home = safe harbor for dust mites, bugs, mold and mice. Keep the old newspapers, magazines, cans and grocery bags outside.
Carpet: Dust mites and pet dander love carpeting and rugs so vaccume weekly.
Bedding: Wash bedding in 130 degree water weekly to get rid of mold and mites.
Bathroom: Moist bathroom or basement walls love to breed mold. Wipe them down with chlorine-bleach solution ( 1oz bleach to 1qt water) to keep fungus at bay.
Crumbs: Overflowing garbage and crumbs lure mice and roaches. Their droppings can aggravate allergies.
Open windows: Refreshing fall breezes are great unless they usher in ragweed pollen indoors. Change your AC or heater filter monthly and be sure to remove your shoes outside to avoid tracking in pollen particles.
Basement: Fight mold with a dehumidifier set between 35 and 45 percent humidity.
Houseplants: Potted houseplants can harbor mold on their leav es. Remove these leaves right away and don't let water pool in the pot's tray.
Pets: Pet dander and saliva are trouble for allergy sufferers. Washing or brushing your pet weekly can lower your home's dander level. Keep dogs and cats out of the bedroom and cover air vents with a cheesecloth to keep dander from spreading.
Fabric furnishings: Dust them weekly. Wash blankets and throw rugs in hot water or have them dry cleaned.
