Combat Your Pollen Allergies

Pollen is EVERYWHERE! It can be found in trees, flowers, grass, and weeds. You might be wondering just how to avoid this allergen because as soon as you get over the tree pollen in spring, there will be grass pollen in summer, and ragweed pollen in fall. However, there are some steps you can take to prevent and reduce its effects....

Allergies to pollen can be treated by using medication, immunotherapy, or by avoiding the allergens. Medication is available in both prescription and over-the-counter varities. The most common prescription drugs are antihistamines. The topical antihistamines are more popular and also more effective, because they can be put directly on the affected area, to provide fast relief of symptoms.

Immunotherapy involves the use of allergy shots, and entails the injection of small doses of pollen under the skin. It is believed that this will help to improve the body's tolerance to the pollen, and avert a severe reaction. Will it work for you? Maybe you should just try it out!

As sad as this sounds, you should make sure to keep your windows and doors closed at all times. While our energy efficient folks would not approve - your air conditioner should be used when you are at home, or in your car. The filter on that guy will help to filter out pollen - (sidenote) only effective if it is cleaned on a regular basis. And while we recommend doing this next activity whether you have allergies or not, those with allergies should try to shower each night before going to bed. Wash that pollen off of your skin and hair!

If your an expert pollen fighter, give us some tips!!!

In order to avoid pollen, persons are often told to stay indoors as much as possible. Also, windows and doors should be kept closed, and the air conditioner should be used when you are at home, or in your car. The filter of the air conditioner will help to filter out pollen, but this can only be effective if it is cleaned on a regular basis. It is also important to shower before going to bed. This will help to wash off pollen from the skin and hair.
